In a ghastly incident that took place in Santa Fe Springs, LA, a man was cooked to death alongside thousands of tuna fish in an industrial oven.
The man, identified as Jose Melena, was doing some maintenance work inside the 35-foot look oven when a co-worker filled up the cooker with nearly 5 tonnes of tuna and turned it on after sealing it. Melena was locked inside.
When he didn't spot Melena anywhere, the co-worker believed that he had taken a break. However, when supervisors realised that he was missing, they made an announcement on the intercom.
Melena's body was found two hours after the pressure cooker was turned off. Temperatures inside the cooker can reach up to 270 degrees.
Bumble Bee Foods, where the incident took place, expressed regret and said that they were devastated at the loss of Jose Melena in the accident.
Two managers of Bumble Bee Foods have been charged with violating safety regulations and could face up to three years in prison.
